Arkansas is the 33rd largest state in the U.S. and has the 17th fastest-growing population in the nation.
Geographically, the state is divided into the highlands to the west and north and the lowlands to the south and east. This diverse landscape offers great land benefits for many farmers and crop growers.
The state is divided into 6 regions:
Arkansas River Valley
This area runs along the Arkansas River and it includes the valley it once carved. This region is characterized by lowlands and has some of the most fertile soil. Located between the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains it attracts hikers and those enjoying all outdoor activities.
Crowley’s Ridge
Considered to be a fairly untapped region with somewhat fertile soil and many oak and hickory forests. A very narrow rolling hill region is protected to the south by the Ozark–St. Francis National Forest.
Gulf Coastal Plain
Encompassing approximately 52 percent of the area of the state this Arkansas region is known for narrow strips of fertile soil and active timber production.
Mississippi Alluvial Plain
Stretching over ten million acres, this region includes the Arkansas Delta featuring the most fertile soil. This area is considered the most productive agricultural region in the entire world. Browse our land listings in Arkansas to find farms, ranches and other land for sale in this region.
Ouachita Mountains
Known for some of the cleanest and purest lakes and creeks, bluffs and rocky river beds, this mountainous region is nothing but abundant with hickory, pines and oak stretching across the upland areas.
Ozark Plateau
Generally called “the Ozarks”, this hill country includes the Boston Mountains with peaks over 2,500 feet. This area or the state is a popular tourist destination.
